Buying a home? You’ll want to have a buyer’s agent drive your team!

BOULDER –  Are you considering buying a home? If the answer is “yes,” you are probably thinking of all the decisions that need to be made, the documentation, the negotiations… it’s quite an exhausting list. You might be polishing your armor to deal with pushy Realtors – expecting an experience like buying a used car. The good news is it does not have to be like that. Many homebuyers have discovered that working with a quality buyer’s agent – a real estate professional who is dedicated only to representing your best interests in the home sale – is key to ensuring a timely and trouble-free transaction.

According to Jeanie Parsons, associate broker and buyer agent with Wright Kingdom Real Estate in Boulder, “When you have an agent who is only focused on home buyers, you are likely to find someone who loves the search, who understands how to determine the real value of the property and will walk you through getting qualified with a reputable lender, and then actively represent you through negotiations with the sellers.”

Parsons, who was recognized by Denver’s 5280 Magazine as a 5-Star Agent in 2011, says that her passion for negotiating and her flexible style of working with each client have garnered her rave reviews and happy clients who know they can refer her to their friends with confidence. “Serving your needs isn’t really a one-size-fits-all situation,” she says. “When we decide to work together, I make sure I’m going to be available according to your schedule. Do you want to bring me listings that you have found, or do you prefer that I preview homes and only take you to the ones that fit your criteria? Do you prefer talking on the phone, or communicating by text messages? Do you have children and need a little help with the ‘kid wrangling’ during a showing? It’s all in a day’s work for me,” Parsons says with a laugh.

Enthusiastic clients are quick to agree. “I was completely stressed out about my move to the Boulder area, and the thought of working with a real estate agent,” says Samantha Harris, who relocated to Boulder from Texas. “My previous experience was upsetting… and I didn’t want to spend half a million dollars and end up with something I didn’t love. Not only did I think Jeanie was worth every penny of that commission, I wanted to keep buying properties because she was so much fun to work with. I had no idea going in that she would do as much as she did.”

First-time homebuyers can especially benefit from working with a buyer’s agent. “Jeanie made buying my first home a wonderful and fun experience,” reports Lindsay Lessman. “She walked me through each step and explained everything in
new home buyer’s terms. She knows her stuff and it made the whole experience extremely
easy and fun!”

Q&A WITH JEANIE PARSONS

Q:  Jeanie, are you a top producing agent?
JP: NO WAY! Top producing agents are admirable business people – and doing that much business means you are very good at getting real estate business. It means having staff, processes and procedures and generally spending your time networking, lead generating, prospecting and other ‘proven top producer techniques.’ The last place you will find me is in a sales training class. I’m a hunter-gatherer and a house whisperer. I want to spend my work time actually visiting houses and focusing on serving current clients – not working on getting new ones.

Q: That doesn’t sound like the typical approach most Realtors take. What makes you different?
JP: You’re right. When I started there were plenty of sales classes and books to read about how to make it as a new agent. The focus was on building your real estate agent empire. I decided if I couldn’t make it by simply serving clients, then I needed to find that out early on. So I concentrated on each client and how best to serve them, and as a result, my clients love working with me and keep sending me more clients. Today I get to do what I love without having to worry about lead generation or closing any particular deal. I’m free to make each client happy and satisfied with my work. I became a real estate agent because I had a passion for helping people buy and sell houses – and I’m proud of the fact that I have kept that focus, did the opposite of what I was told, and became a successful agent in spite of it all.
