Smaller homes for a fuller life at Blue Vista
LONGMONT – Boulder Creek Neighborhoods is shaking up the new home market in Longmont. With the introduction of their wee-Cottage series, the builder offers a “less is more” series of homes to home shoppers. Designed with the right dose of square footage with a low-maintenance lifestyle, wee-Cottage® by the acclaimed lifestyle builder Boulder Creek Neighborhoods is now available at Blue Vista, starting in the mid $300s.
Cozy new homes
Sarah Fritzler and her husband, Kyle, longed to purchase a home soon after they relocated to Longmont from northeast Colorado three years ago, yet a tight market compelled them to rent. “Although we are Colorado natives, we came from somewhere with a much different housing market,” Sarah said. “We were pretty discouraged when we first moved up here, especially since we couldn’t see ourselves purchasing a townhouse.”
Boulder Creek’s wee-Cottage series changed that. The Fritzlers will move into their wee-Cottage at Blue Vista and anticipate a “space that we can make our own,” said Kyle, a network engineer in Longmont.
Perfectly-sized, open-concept cottages
At two to three bedrooms and 890 to 1,400 square feet, wee-Cottages at Blue Vista are far from what comes to mind when discussing a “tiny house,” said Community Manager David Gregg. He explained, “The underlying philosophy behind the wee-Cottages is that less is more.”
And Gregg is right – the wee-Cottage series is smaller in both square footage and price than just about any new home in the Denver market today. He added, “Many homeowners,” like the Fritzlers, “will be transitioning out of a leasing situation, allowing them to build equity for themselves rather than their landlords.”
Indeed, Kyle said, “Even though these are considered small houses, it’s actually a few hundred square feet larger than our last home, which we felt was a really good size for us. We don’t really want or need a five-bedroom, four-bath massive house at this point in our lives.”
Sarah concurred, noting, “Not having to finance – or maintain or cool or heat – square footage that we simply don’t need or want at this particular point in time has meant we can realize having our own home.”
Sarah and Kyle said the open-concept floorplan and attached garage of the “Cottage 5” floorplan cinched the deal. Sarah said, “We’re extremely excited to have a little more privacy and being able to go about our lives with a little more convenience and freedom than apartment life offers. I also know that between the floorplan of our model, the attached garage and a little bit of a yard, Kyle will have the space he needs to be able to tinker with things – one of his favorite hobbies.”
The “Cottage 5” floorplan includes two bedrooms and a loft, as well as a kitchen off the main floor, and the Fritzlers have plans for it all: “The large attached garage will be nice for working on vehicles, the loft will be used as a home office and a second bedroom will be in case of company,” Kyle said. An attached garage will leave Sarah and Kyle with useable yard space, too.
The majority of the 102 homes in the neighborhood will be two-story homes with two or three bedrooms. David Gregg reveals that Blue Vista will also be home to a limited number of ranch-style homes. The Cottage Six is a newly released floorplan that offers two bedrooms, one or 1.5 bathrooms, an attached one-car garage with extra depth for storage, all located on the main floor. The home is about 1100 total square feet. “Our two-story cottages are a great fit for those that want a bit more space upstairs. For those that like everything to be on the main floor, the Cottage Six is a great option.” Gregg points out.
Longmont charm, mountain accessibility
Following Boulder Creek Neighborhoods’ commitment to what they dub “lifefullness®,” or pursuing one’s passions, front yard landscaping and exterior painting are maintained on the owner’s behalf, leaving home owners more time for what they enjoy. Gregg mentions he works with buyers every day who are proud to be choosing a smaller footprint, and most have hopes to funnel their extra time and resources into more exciting activities, travel and mountain day trips. Gregg said the beauty of the wee-Cottages is “simplicity, peace of mind and freedom,” rendering the cottages ideal for a range of ages and stages of life.
Kyle and Sarah are excited about the Blue Vista neighborhood, “as it’s not too far from anything here in Longmont, (including) grocery stores and restaurants,” Kyle said.
He continued, “Longmont has been a really good fit because it’s urban without being a huge congested mess and isn’t too far away from our families in our previous town. Everyone we’ve met here has been warm and inviting.”
Gregg said, “Blue Vista is a fantastic location for people with active lifestyles of any kind. The neighborhood is just south of downtown Longmont and offers quick access to both Boulder and Denver via 287 and I-25.” Directly across from Blue Vista is Quail Campus, where the Longmont Recreation Center and Longmont Museum are anchored, the community offers easy access to Longmont’s expansive city trail system and is bike-friendly. “Homeowners will have no trouble filling up the free time they get back with the low-maintenance lifestyles our homes provide,” he said.
Blue Vista’s wee-Cottages are built with the home’s durability and efficiency in mind – traits important to every homeowner, no matter the size or price of the home. Crafted with efficient features such as Rinnai tankless hot water heaters, low-E windows with argon gas and insulation values far beyond code requirements, “The homes are built with the same quality and thoughtfulness that Boulder Creek Neighborhoods is well known for,” Gregg said. “The energy efficiency and durable building practices are a huge part of that.”
He concluded, “The wee-Cottages grant that opportunity in a smaller, more attainable package. It’s the comfort of owning a durable, efficient home, the flexibility of more free time and the proximity to local amenities that will give our homeowners at Blue Vista the lifefullness they seek.”
Boulder Creek Neighborhood’s wee-Cottages at Longmont follow the striking success of their wee-Cottage neighborhoods in Loveland and Stapleton. Both neighborhoods sold out quickly, prompting the award-winning builder to offer the home collection in Longmont. Blue Vista cottages start in the mid-$300s, and model construction is expected to start soon. (Boulder Creek is offering tours of a completed Cottage in Loveland
on Saturdays and Sundays in October, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2590 Trio Falls Drive in Loveland.)
