Heron Lakes in Berthoud

Low-maintenance Villas at Heron Lakes are now selling.

Low-maintenance living at Heron Lakes is now open.

BERTHOUD – Low-maintenance, main-floor living has made its debut at Colorado’s exclusive Tournament Players Club golf course (TPC). Construction is underway on the first Boulder Creek Neighborhoods model home at the master-planned Heron Lakes Golf Community, anchored by miles of lakeshore in Berthoud and featuring sweeping views of Longs Peak and the surrounding foothills. Heron Lakes homeowners enjoy Colorado’s only Tournament Players Club 18-hole championship golf course in their backyard, as well as lake and mountain views throughout the neighborhood.

Trade yard chores for free time with low-maintenance villas

Heron Lakes features The Villas patio home series, offered by Louisville-based, award-winning builder Boulder Creek Neighborhoods. The rustic style and elegant finishes of these limited-edition, low-maintenance villas give the neighborhood a distinctly Colorado feel.  Boulder Creek’s Villas wed Tuscan and Mountain aesthetics with stress-reducing simplicity, as an HOA manages the upkeep of the Colorado-inspired landscaping. This low-maintenance lifestyle is perfect for those wishing to trade weeding for golfing, mowing for birding, and shoveling for cocktails by the fire.

Donna Lu Gamberg, Boulder Creek’s Community Sales Manager explains, “Our low-maintenance lifestyle helps our home owners get their free time back. People that are interested in Heron Lakes are looking to play more golf, travel more, and spend time with family instead of managing landscaping chores.”

Inside, Boulder Creek homes celebrate graceful and efficient design, with open-concept floorplans and stylishly designed spaces.   Unique features like main-floor living, wider hallways and doors, and tall ceilings combine to deliver light and airy layouts, perfect for those seeking a change in lifestyle. Gamberg mentions, “So many of our homeowners are what we call ‘right-sizers’ – people who are looking for something different than a traditional two-story family-style home.”  She clarifies, “But these people aren’t willing to downgrade on features and amenities as they seek a new home that fits their lifestyle.”

Enter The Villas – ranch-style patio homes with finished lower levels, offering between 3,000 and 3,600 square feet.  The Villas patio homes at Heron Lakes back directly to the TPC golf course, and showcase both front and rear outdoor spaces, perfect for enjoying the Colorado outdoors.  Exciting available features include three car garages, expanded kitchens with dual ovens, beverage centers and dual dishwashers, luxury appliances (think:  Thermador and Viking), and even multiple main floor suites.

A menu of outdoor pursuits

Gamberg believes that the Boulder Creek homes at Heron Lakes offer “the opportunity of a lifetime.” She explains, “As an avid golfer myself, I appreciate the unique nature of this course and this well-appointed community. For those seeking an exclusive low-maintenance lifestyle, and especially for those who appreciate a beautiful game of golf, this setting and this course can’t be beat anywhere in the United States.”

The course, now open to the public, is the first ground-up TPC golf course developed nationwide in nearly 10 years. Jon Turner, of Hillside Commercial Group, the master planner of Heron Lakes Golf Community, said, “The PGA Tour’s TPC Network worked with us every step of the way. They were involved with every hole and every green.” Designed for professional golfers as well as weekend warriors, Heron Lakes’ TPC course will host its first event in 2019 and already counts more than 200 memberships.

Heron Lakes at TPC Colorado is a “hidden gem,” Turner said. The community’s three reservoirs, Lonetree, McNeil and Welch, boast unrivaled flora and fauna, a wintering herd of elk, bald eagles, osprey and the state’s largest great blue heron rookery. “We designed and redesigned the course and worked closely with the architect,” Turner recalled. “We passed a series of tests to get the site approved with the PGA Tour, tests such as, ‘did they want to come to Colorado, to this site, to this market, did they like the design and could it make financial sense?’ When they did come out here, they were stunned.”

As Boulder Creek Neighborhoods deliberately fashions homes that empower “lifefullness,” or living fully, Heron Lakes is a perfect fit for the builder. “Here at Heron Lakes, home owners can cultivate their passions,” Gamberg said. “Low-maintenance living means home owners can focus on their golf game, pick up a new hobby, hike and bike around the lakes, or just relax in their new home without worrying about outdoor maintenance chores.”

Indeed, Heron Lakes boasts a menu of outdoor pursuits. While the main attraction is the TPC golf course, of course, the community also counts almost nine miles of hiking and biking trails, neighborhood parks and hundreds of acres of passive open space. “It’s a very dramatic site,” Turner said.  In addition to the beautiful TPC course, impressive vistas and stunning wildlife, the community at Heron Lakes will ultimately include condominiums, deluxe townhomes and for those eager to make the most of their free time, low-maintenance ranch-style villas.

Spectacular ‘drives’ home – with ideal accessibility

Turner joked that for residents of Heron Lakes, “the drive home just became spectacular.” He continued, “This site is irreplaceable. It’s right on the bypass with ideal accessibility.” Heron Lakes Golf Community is located on Highway 287 in Berthoud, known for its small town charm, off of Interstate 25. Proximate to Denver and the Denver International Airport, Boulder and Fort Collins, the community epitomizes active Colorado living.

The Heron Lakes clubhouse was designed to complement the magnificence of the course, Turner said. At 55,000 square feet, the mountain lodge clubhouse will serve as the centerpiece of the community with a sports center, grand ballroom, fitness center, resort-style pool, restaurant and cafe.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind place,” Turner said.
