Discover freedom in a ‘right-sized’, low-maintenance home starting in the mid $300s
The long-awaited grand opening for the two new model homes at Longmont’s Blue Vista neighborhood is finally here. Award-winning, lifestyle home builder Boulder Creek Neighborhoods will be celebrating this Sunday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Known for its low maintenance patio homes throughout Boulder County, Boulder Creek’s wee-Cottage® homes are quickly making a name for themselves throughout the Front Range. The builder has recently completed wee-Cottage neighborhoods in Loveland and in Stapleton (selling out in just over six months), and at press time, has sold over 30 percent of the popular home series available at Blue Vista.
To learn about the wee-Cottages is to understand why hungry home buyers are snapping them up left and right. “The wee-Cottages present a new way to think about what you need in a home,” explained Boulder Creek Neighborhoods Community Manager Micah Davidson. At about 900 to 1,300 square feet, “they’re not a condo or a tiny house, but a right-sized, single-family detached low-maintenance home perfect for anyone who wants to spend their weekends doing what they love, instead of yard work, all-day cleaning and the never-ending chores necessary to maintain a bigger home,” Davidson said.
With prices starting in the mid $300s (at press time, no wee-Cottage at Blue Vista has a base price of over $400,000), buyers can expect homes to finish in the high $300s up to the mid $400s – depending on lot premiums and the personalization selections made during the design process. Davidson says, “Many people are drawn here by the price, and then are pleasantly surprised by the homes and the lifestyle.”
At the grand opening, buyers can envision a home that fuels their lifestyle
This Sunday, with the grand opening of Cottage Three and Cottage Five model homes at Blue Vista, prospective home owners can see what a fuller life with a downsized mortgage payment (frequently along with a minimized environmental impact) and “upsized quality free time looks like,” Davidson said. Blue Vista’s “smaller footprints are fantastic for those who think of their home as a jumping-off point rather than an anchor on their lifestyle,” he continued. “Not only are the cottages less to clean and maintain, but their right size means energy bills are lower, which is kind to the earth and the wallet.” In fact, David Gregg, Blue Vista’s wee-Cottage architect, noted that mortgage payments on Blue Vista wee-Cottages can often be “equal to or less than the going rental rates” – and wee-Cottage home owners forge equity for themselves, instead of a landlord.
The majority of the 102 homes in the neighborhood will be two-story homes with two or three bedrooms – though Davidson notes that there are a limited number of ranch-style floor plans (dubbed the “Cottage Three”) available. The Cottage Three – at 1155 square feet, two bedrooms and a two car attached garage is one of the professionally designed model homes available to tour this weekend. The second model is the “Cottage Five” – a two-story floor plan that features up to three bedrooms upstairs, and finishes at an impressive 1380 feet. Most wee-Cottages feature back patios and relaxing front porches – all very intentionally designed. The cottage garages back to alleys, meaning that “the many front porches facing the street really give the neighborhood a friendly, welcoming feel,” Davidson said.
Davidson also mentions the newly-introduced “Cottage Six.” “We continue to see a big demand for main-floor living,” he says. “The Cottage Six is a slightly smaller ranch plan, and has some really unique storage options, depending on your lifestyle needs.”
Blue Vista builds upon Boulder Creek Neighborhoods’ reputation for craftsmanship. “Every bit of the homes was scrutinized for its efficiency and simplicity,” Gregg said. “The right sizing of the wee-Cottage was intended to have a very functional space for all of your everyday activities. We wanted to see how small can we make a home while keeping it functional, furnishable and comfortable for the owners.” Furthermore, the cottages, following Boulder Creek’s commitment to environmentally wise construction, exceed industry efficiency standards, and appliances are always Energy Star workhorses. Stand-out green elements include Rinnai tankless hot water heaters, low-E windows with argon gas and insulation values far beyond code requirements.
Low-maintenance lifestyle, environmentally-conscious construction
The smaller footprint of the Cottages also enables Boulder Creek Neighborhoods to deliver an efficient home while filling a market niche for durable, low-maintenance homes at a reasonable price. Blue Vista’s neighborhood home owners’ lifestyle association, Boulder Creek’s telling take on an HOA, maintains the front yard landscaping, weeding, snow shoveling and even exterior painting, giving home owners the freedom to travel or relish spontaneous day trips into the mountains. “I talk to so many home owners of all ages and life stages who want more freedom, more time to do what they love, whether that’s afternoons on the porch with a book or cycling Longmont’s many trails,” Davidson said.
Mountain charm with big city amenities
Longmont is known for its proximity to Boulder, its small town charm and outdoor lifestyle, and its incredible panoramic views. The town’s Main Street corridor is bustling with new restaurants, shops and museums, and the Longmont Farmers market is nearby at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Blue Vista, ideally located across the street from the Longmont Recreation Center and the City of Longmont Museum, Blue Vista is minutes from Highways 119 and 287 and Interstate 25 and a short drive to the Denver International Airport. Longmont’s annual festivals, gallery events and concerts foster a remarkably thriving downtown. Additionally, to the delight of families with children (or grandchildren), plans are underway for a City of Longmont park with a playground, fields, courts and picnic area bordering the southern side of the neighborhood.
GRAND OPENING THIS SUNDAY
With 30 percent of the Cottages currently sold, these homes are uniquely popular with all ages. Davidson said neighbors appreciate the camaraderie and diversity celebrated at Blue Vista. “We have singles, young married couples, families and retirees,” he said. “The homes are perfectly suited for people who really enjoy life and want a home that fuels that desire. These cottages bring a new level of comfort, freedom and simplicity.” Blue Vista wee-Cottages start in the mid $300s and will count about 90 homes at build out.
