(July 31) LONGMONT – The Longmont Association of Realtors® is deeply disappointed with the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s final rule implementing the “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” provisions of the Federal Fair Housing Act. The organization believes the changes threaten to strip away the rule’s original civil rights purpose, mandated in the 1968 law. Furthermore, the organization asserts the changes significantly weaken the federal government’s commitments to the goals of the Fair Housing Act.
“The Longmont Association of Realtors believes a strong, affirmative fair housing rule is vital to advancing our community’s progress toward a thriving and inclusive community,” said Natasha Hubbard, chair of the Longmont Association of Realtors Board of Directors. “The COVID 19 pandemic’s disproportionate impact on people of color reminds us of the costs of the failure to address barriers to housing opportunity. We are committed to ensuring no American is unfairly denied this fundamental right,” Hubbard added.
